Top Tips for getting involved
1. No St George’s Day celebration would be complete without joining the rest of the nation at 10:45pm, by raising a pint of Wells Bombardier to England and St George. Licensees should herald the toast with:
"I have the honour of undertaking the following toast.
Ladies & gentlemen, I give you England & St George."
Make England and 'the English' the theme of the event. Why not try an English fancy dress competition and feature English music and food - whether it's free snacks on the bar or a full-blown medieval banquet. We've got some great
recipies to get you started .
Celebrate English music with live music or a DJ. You could play anything from Land of Hope and Glory, to The Beatles, to The Spice Girls. Just make sure it's English!
Put on traditional English food – bangers and mash, pie, beef Wellington, spotted dick, toad in the hole... perhaps on special offer.
Play England sporting events on your big screen…you can’t celebrate England without reliving the 1966 World Cup!
Run an English quiz.
Write to your fellow licensees in the area and maybe get together to
organise activity, such as an inter-pub sports quiz, or an English karaoke
competition.
Kits are available from Wells and Young's so you can decorate your pub or restaurant.
Try and be imaginative and different: relive the England's rugby team's great World Cup win... have a Jonny Wilkinson hour!
And start planning now! St George's Day is the third busiest day in English pubs so plan ahead to make sure you maximise its potential.
